All students of Miss West will be set up with their own electronic OneNote Book. The first page of this will be used as a logbook to keep thorough records of what has been covered in each lesson, plans for upcoming lessons, any homework set, and a colour-coded Topics Tracker to monitor the student’s progress in each curriculum topic relevant to their attainment level and current school year or GCSE/A Level exam board. Together, the student and I use their Topics Tracker to help us identify priority areas and to inform our co-planning of lessons, whilst regularly updating the colour-coding according to their progress. The remainder of their OneNote Book will contain lesson notes, examples and work completed during their lessons.
At your request, you can be emailed a live link to your child’s OneNote Book, to enable you to access it at any time.
I encourage students to think of their OneNote Book as an electronic extension of their school exercise book. They are welcome to add notes, work or questions to it that they'd like us to look at together, and many students find it useful to refer to their OneNote Book to help them with homework and revision.
Due to spending my teaching career in Oxfordshire, and having tutored students from nearly 20 schools in the region, I have been able to network and collaborate across different schools and thereby have gained knowledge of the syllabuses, teaching styles, and exam board preferences of most local state and independent secondary schools. Should parents or carers wish for me to do so, I am always more than happy to get in touch with their child’s maths teacher to gain further insight into what is currently being covered at school, exam schedules and the areas in which their teacher feels that particular student would benefit from one-one tutoring support. As a teacher myself, I have experienced the benefits of tutors and teachers working together to support students, and the importance of learning undertaken in tutoring lessons to, where possible, coincide with and support the learning being covered in the student's maths lessons at school. I find that this really helps the student to grow in self-confidence which in turn allows them to make the most of their maths lessons at school. Understandably, the sharing of any such information regarding a child’s attainment and a department’s schedules etc. is at the discretion of the school and in accordance to their own GDPR policy.
Of course, tutoring can also provide a great opportunity for students to explore mathematics beyond the material they study at school. It has always been a passion of mine to push students mathematically and show them how particular topics progress at higher levels, helping them to achieve beyond their own expectations and boosting their confidence in school lessons.
I pride myself on being a very adaptable teacher, tailoring my teaching and use of resources to suit the needs and preferences of each student. Students and their parents can reach out for my support outside of one-one lessons at any time; I am always available via email or Instagram (with parental permission for the student to send a direct message to my business' Instagram account) should one of my students wish to ask me for help with homework or perhaps something they didn't quite understand in their maths lesson at school that day. I also offer tailor-made homework for KS3 and GCSE students; click the button below to find out more!
As well as helping them progress in maths, I genuinely enjoy getting to know each student and being a friendly face they can rely on to help them succeed and make them laugh along the way!
