Students have the choice of having their lessons with Miss West in-person at her home in Aston or online via Teams.
Online tutoring can be particularly beneficial for students who are absent from school for a period of time, suffer from a form of anxiety, are unable to travel to an in-person lesson or are away on holiday.
Please be aware that before commencing online lessons all students, parent(s) and guardian(s) must have read the Online Tutoring Code of Conduct, which can be found here.
What is Teams?
Teams is a free, secure app and service owned by Microsoft that can be used across a range of devices, including smart phones, for messaging and video calling as well as scheduling online meetings and sharing files . It also enables ‘screen sharing’ meaning that students are able to see what is being referred to on the tutor's screen (exam questions, interactive whiteboard, online worksheets, their tutoring log book etc.).
Teams can be used on the web via its webpage (click here) or by downloading the desktop/mobile version directly to your laptop, tablet or smart device (click here). Teams has security settings that allow users to connect only with others with whom they have shared their associated Teams email address or a link to add them as a contact. If online tuition is arranged you will be emailed the relevant link to add the tutor as a contact.
Although it is preferable for students to have access to a webcam, integrated laptop or tablet camera, or a smart phone camera during lessons it is not a requirement and students can participate using audio only if they prefer to do so.
