An intensive summer preparation course for students transitioning from GCSE to A Level

Delivered over a series of 8 live online sessions throughout August, this invaluable and carefully curated course is aimed at students transitioning from GCSE to A Level Maths in 2025, particularly those that may be apprehensive about the leap in complexity, are undecided about their A Level choices and would benefit from a taster, or are simply eager to get ahead and hit the ground running in September!

8 live and interactive online sessions, each 90 minutes in length, every Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30pm throughout August.
Optional weekly homework tasks (4 in total), marked and returned with personalised and detailed feedback.
All sessions recorded for students to revisit.
Option to order just the recorded version of any session (at a discounted cost) if a student knows they will be unable to attend online.

Total cost for all 8 live online sessions + all 4 homework tasks = £180

All Students will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the course, listing the topics covered in the sessions they attended and on any homework they completed. This can then be shared with their A Level teacher in September, if they feel it would be useful to do so.

Why is it worth doing an A level preparation course?

Dedicating some time in the summer to preparing for A Level Maths helps students to have a smoother transition from GCSE, start the course with confidence, and excel in their studies from day one.

This course aims to supply these benefits by providing students the opportunity to:

Recap & solidify skills from GCSE that are the most essential for a flying start to the A Level Maths course.
Delve deeper into topics with the most elevation in complexity and technicality between GCSE and A Level.
Gain an introduction to and lay the groundwork for some of the pivotal ideas that form the core of the A Level course, such as calculus, algebraic structures, and advanced geometry.
Improve skills in critical mathematical thinking and approaching complex problems.
Feel more prepared for the steep academic leap and challenges presented by the transition between GCSE and A Level.
Develop a better overview of the course structure, content and exam process.
Get ideas for maintaining organisation, structure and motivation throughout the A Level course.

What's the cost?

£20 per live online session (recording included)
£5 per weekly homework task + marking
£8 for the recorded version only of a particular session

Live sessions will take place on Microsoft Teams. For any sessions that a Student is aware in advance they will not be able to attend (due to being on holiday, for example), there is the option to request a copy of the recorded version of the session instead at a discounted cost; this is strongly recommended in order to maintain progress throughout the course.

Students also have the option to be set a weekly homework task (to be sent shortly after each Wednesday session, on the condition that they have attended or requested a recording of at least one session that week). Homework will be submitted via email for marking and detailed individual feedback sent back to the Student.

Please note, there will be no requirement for participating students to have cameras or microphones during the live online sessions, but they will need something to write with and on, their calculator where appropriate, and the ability to hear Miss West via speakers or headphones. Students will though, of course, be very welcome to interact with Miss West (to ask questions, suggest answers etc.) via camera, microphone or chat box at appropriate times during each session.

How to book

You will be able to specify on the form which sessions you would like to book places for as well as indicate any sessions you would like to order just the recorded version of. You will also be able to select any weeks for which you would like a home task.

Shortly after you have completed your form, an invoice will be emailed to you; this will need to be settled before its due date in order to secure your booking. Your emailed receipt will then also be confirmation that your places are booked.

The Microsoft Teams links for each Masterclass, along with any other final information you will need, will be emailed to you nearer the relevant dates and times.
